Spirit of the Shadow: Seeing Through Blind-Spots

If you have spent any time with me in the last ten years you have absolutely heard the words, “the shadow”, come out of my mouth—probably more times than you care to. When I discovered the concept of “the shadow” back in college, it blew my mind wide open. It answered so many questions about who I am, what makes me tick, and what gets in my way. It has meant everything in my quest for true self-knowledge. It has given me access to a level of compassion and empathy that I would have never been able to know without it.

Have you ever noticed that when you bring your attention to your breath it naturally shifts and changes? It gets deeper, fuller, less forced, more natural. 

Then what does that do to how you feel? How you hold your body? Your mood?

When we bring our attention to our breath, our awareness of our breath and our relationship to it begin to shift. This is why we begin our classes with breath. It’s practice for how to then move through our bodies, through our lives, and through our world. We start with attention, which expands our awareness, which then influences how we see, experience, and understand things.

…along with many other self-care rituals. For many of us, this has been a week (or a month rather) where self-care practices have come in very handy.

I base this on what I’ve been going through, my conversations with others, and what’s going on in the cosmos of course! There is a lot happening in outer space that is reflecting what we’ve been witnessing and experiencing here on Earth. 

For many of us, it’s been a big couple of weeks for old stuff to come to the surface. You may be experiencing this in your life as feeling a bit more emotional, or maybe an old pattern has resurfaced that you thought you healed, or perhaps the “stuff” is manifesting itself as more aches and pains in your body.

Take a deep breath...

Take a deep breath, 
allow yourself to get present.
Allow yourself to feel and inhabit this moment.

With so much to do in the world, as well as in our personal lives, remember to check-in with yourself. 

Release what is not yours. Release what you no longer need. 

Call in your unique essence, your power, and your truth.

A task of the time...

With all the blessings of technology such as access to information and entertainment, and the ability to stay connected and informed, these blessings can equally be challenges. 

All this access to information makes it easier for us to see how much there is to do; so many causes and so many places that can stretch, harden, and break the heart. If you are anything like me, it can be a little overwhelming at times. Our ancestors did not have access to this much information. Should we? Or is a part of our evolution as a species for us to be able to face the questions we face today and take on the tasks in front of us?
